REVIEW OF LOVE BEYOND DESIRE BY RAKHI VERMA
Date: 26 February 2020

‘Love beyond Desire’ by Rakhi Verma was supposed to be a simple, uncomplicated love story. Atleast that's what I thought when I read the blurb and all the reviews. But I was mistaken. Because there's nothing plain or simple about this book.
It was an absolutely amazing and stupendous book with very fine, intricately written details. There's nothing boring here.
Love Beyond Desire is a unique love story. It’s about a girl who falls in love with her best friend, Arman when she is in school. It’s a story of long-lost lovers who finally meet after nine years, and their love is still strong as it was before. It's a story with hope, passion, emotional confusion, emotional outburst, fun, mystery, happiness, admiration, love and desire, along with beautiful poems and songs to keep you entertained.
Rhia knows that love is not being together forever, but it is to remember the moments together forever. Keeping this in mind, Rhia moves ahead in her life by managing personal and work life.
It’s been nine years since Arman left her, and Rhia manages her life just fine with a dream job and her own place, finally free from family drama. She turned her life and took control of it, but the only part of her life that she couldn’t control was love. She couldn’t love anyone because she is heartbroken. As she had found and lost her love on the same day, and when Arman left her forever without even a goodbye, but with just two letters both addressed to her, one ‘To My Best Friend’ and other ‘To My Girlfriend’ and a ring, which she still holds as a reminder – a proof of broken love.
Rhia and her friends are enjoying the wedding celebration at Mumbai’s luxurious hotel. Everything is great, and everyone is enjoying it until she sees Arman. He steps through the gate after long nine years along with his 3-year-old son, leaving her shocked and speechless. They are about to spend three days together under the same roof, and she is all worried, angry and pleased, again all at the same time. She wants to know why he left without a goodbye; it’s all she wants to know.
So, will she finally get answers? Will Arman finally say why he left her, and why he kissed her if he was about to leave?
My review:
This book has everything that a good read must have. It had some of my most favorite tropes. (Childhood lovers, second chance-romance.)
Our hero, Arman and heroine, Rhia meet nine years after a very sudden, one sided breakup. They are attending one of their friend's wedding.
They have been best friends since they were kids. Circumstances separated them but fate reunited them.
When they meet again, sparks fly, old feelings resurface. Will they get back together or won't they? Well, you need to read the book for that.
I don't mind second chance romances or books where there is a separation. But one thing that I need in my books is that both the characters should be loyal to each other even during their so-called separation if they are claiming later on that they have always loved each other. So, for me, it was a bit dicey and difficult to digest that the hero was married (And with a kid) when he met heroine after their separation. But rest assured, as the book progressed, I was happy with the way everything turned out and I was smiling so big when I found out the truth. The poems written in the book were awesome.
The only thing that I didn't like about this book was the misunderstanding. I know this is fiction and the author needs to add drama for creating a storyline, but I freaking hated that the couple lost nine years because of a very simple misunderstanding.
My thoughts on the hero:
Arman was all alpha male and he definitely made my stomach flutter with all his possessiveness. It was really cute to see him get all jealous. I am a sucker for ‘Love at first sight’ and found it adorable that he had fallen in love with the heroine the moment he saw her.
My thoughts on the heroine:
Rhia was independent and not at all a doormat. She showed personality, which I find lacking in a lot of books that have alpha males. But this heroine really stood out on her own.
My favorite quote from the book:
“I loved you from the day I first saw you. You pulled me out of my misery; You made me smile at the time when it was impossible for me to be happy. After my mother died, I never thought I would be happy again, but you made me happy and from past 12 years each day was more special than the last.”
My rating:
I'll be giving this book five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Give this book a try if you love romance genre. I assure you that this book won't leave you disappointed.
