REVIEW OF BOUGHT: LAST CHANCE SERIES BY A. L. LONG

Date: 16 August 2019

The book is about how the hero Roman helps the heroine Alannah, who has been slaved since she was five years old, to overcome her shell and help her become a better woman.

The blurb is as follows:

The last memory that Alannah ‘Lanie’ Jackson has of her father is the day he went away. Hidden away in an attic from the rest of the world, the only thing that Alannah ‘Lanie’ Jackson can hold on to is the memory of her father and the hope that one day he will come for her. Every day that passes, the memory of her childhood disappears and she learns that her only purpose now is to please. Trained to act a certain way, the day comes when she can finally be free. She only hopes that the man who purchases her will be kinder than her current master.

Review:

Though it can be categorized as a Dark Romance, I'd say that there weren't any gory details to make you cringe and you can surely read it even if you aren't a fan of such genre.
After reading so many books about this Dark Erotic genre, I sort of stopped feeling for the heroines. It was the same old story and so I became phlegmatic and impassive.
'BOUGHT: A Last Chance Series' by A.L. Long is the book that finally made me feel some emotions. I felt so sad for the heroine.
There is this one instance where Roman is telling her to live her life and experience the world and Alannah asks him if he could show her how. Oh my God. That scene was written so beautifully and it just broke my heart.
Some might say that Alannah is weak because she was captive for fifteen years and did nothing to get out. I don't think she was weak at all. She was a fighter. Just because a heroine is mouthy and gobby doesn't mean she is strong. Our heroine did what she had to do to survive. She endured everything and still came out winning and that is pure strength for me.
Roman is a gem. Real men don't need to prey on helpless women. The hero had bought the heroine, so essentially, he could have done anything with her. But he never once forced her. He took things at her pace. He is a man who knows what he wants.
To see Alannah come out of her shell was absolutely stunning. Reading about the memories that she has of her Dad made my heart ache.
Many of the reviews on Goodreads are saying that the book was too short. I personally think that it was of perfect length. If the author can manage to give us insight as well as develop her characters precisely in the limited pages, then why should she drag the story just for the sake of it and make it boring and mundane?
Also, this is a series, so there are more books to come.

I don't understand why this book isn't being blown up already. It is so amazing. I am giving it full FIVE STARS

About the Author:

A. L. Long

Award winning author of the Independent Press Award for Distinguishing Favorite. Recipient of the National Indie Excellence award for Erotica Romance.

My love for writing began several years ago after an early retirement from a demanding job that I loved, but also hated because it consumed so much of my time. Now, I am able to focus my time on what I love. Writing romance has been a life long dream and to actually say that I am a published author is beyond what I would have ever expected.

Even though some may say I have a little naughtiness in my books, I look at it as an added bonus for my readers. After all what is a romance book without a little spice.

When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with friends either at home or out on the town. Mostly, I enjoy a relaxing night at home where I can enjoy a glass of wine in the company of a good book.

Out of everything, she enjoys driving in her little convertible with the top down.
