REVIEW OF SUNSET BY THE RIVER BY SAMEER SAXENA

Written in first person POV, Sunset by the River by can be most appropriately labelled as a thriller romance with a touch of emotions as well.

The blurb is as follows:

My Review:

At first glance, I thought this book was going to be a second chance romance novel, however the roun from the very first chapter itself stated it to be otherwise.

The Male protagonist, Ayaan is working overseas on a project in Japan. One day, he suddenly gets a call from his very good friend stating that ‘She’ is missing fron few days.

Now, we have no idea who ‘she’ is, and that mystery part led me to instantly liking this book.

Soon after this suspicious revelation, we get the backstory and our protagonists are introduced. As the story progresses, we come to know what transpired between them, why they aren't together anymore and what is the covert behind the sudden dissappearance of the Female Protagonist.

Story revolves around Ayaan and Tripti, who meet through their common friend. The company where he works for was kickstarting a campaign for a batch of new smartphones, and he thought a college fest would be the best venue for a presentation. That's where he first sees Tripti and soon after that, sparks fly and they both start getting involved with each other.

Until this point, I was still of a belief that this was going to be like every other book of this type where Boy meets girl, they fall in love, they get separated, they reunite and live in Happily Ever After.

Never in a million years would have I thought that this book would take a turn that it did. I had read the description, so I wasn't clueless going in the book, but the twists that came and the way this story unfolded was such an unexpected, but really pleasant shock.

I liked how the Epilogue beautifully symbolised the Title of the book and it was indeed a pleasant ‘‘Sunset by The River.’’

My thoughts on  the Heroine:

I felt like Tripti had very ‘Girl next door’vibes to her. She was a goody good two shoes. I found it absolutely hilarious how she used to call Ayaan ‘Sir’ (I want to clarify that this had nothing to do with FSOG’s Sir). As I continued reading, I felt pity for her and my heart just broke for her, knowing how she was suffering.

My thoughts on the Hero:

Ayaan seemed to be very wise for his age. He was smart and ambitious, but he also kept balance. He wasn't a perfect man by any means, and had many flaws, but that made him real. Considering the circumstances, many men would have just given up, but he fought back very hard and helped Tripti, which was admirable.

My favorite quote:

“It’s ironic how I found you when I had stopped looking for love. I had stopped believing that I would ever have a soul-mate, and then you showed me I’ve always had one all these years.

I wonder if you can hear me right now. If you are, I just wanna tell you how much I adore our incomplete love story more than the thousand complete ones I have ever read. How I wish I could go back one year in time and make you all mine. But, this, knowing ‘you’ has been one of the greatest things to have ever happened to me and I wish for us to always be in each other’s lives in some way. I am determined to not to make our story a sad one. I know you will come back.”

My thoughts on the book:

The writing style was simply flawless and the words flowed smoothly. I want to applaud the author for taking up such a topic (Mental Health), which is still considered to be a stigma in our society.

People are still of the opinion that the disease/illness that is not physical is not a disease indeed. However, they need to understand that Mental Illness is just as deadly as any other illness and this book was a great initiative in making people aware about the same.

My Rating:

I loved the message that this book gave and so I am going to give this book Five Sunset Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
