REVIEW OF YELLOW: THE VERSES OF HURTING AND HEALING BY URJA JOSHI
This book is advertised that it is for those who believe in love and those who don't. When I read it, I personally thought that this book was that, yet beyond and more.
The blurb is as follows:
Yellow is a poetry collection, divided into two phases: Mohi & Kabir.
Mohi symbolises "the hurting" and Kabir is all about "the healing" that comes after it.
A book written and illustrated by author, which is for everyone.
For those who believe in love and compassion and for those who don't. those who have healed and those who are still in process. Those who aren't able to move on and those who have successfully done it. it is for feminists, the activists, the believers, the gender norm shatterers. it is a gift, a book on its journey to make difference in it's reader's life.
My Review:
As stated in the blurb, the book is divided in two parts: Mohi and Kabir.
At first glance, I thought that these two are the names of a girl and boy respectively, and this collection would be poems on them.
But in reality, Mohi basically represents hurting, a phase, a term given to all those people whose stress hinders their ability to reach their fullest potential.
Kabir on the other hand is healing, it is the optimism that even though the things seem worse at the moment, everything is going to be better.
My thoughts about the Poems in Mohi:
Every single poem/ verse in the Mohi was truly heart touching. A broken heart is considered to be the most dangerous thing in the world. It can be extremely painful for a person to overcome such pain and many a times, people are never able to move on, and continue to long for their beloved.
Its said that happy memories last for few moments, but sad memories last for a life time.
My thoughts about the Poems in Kabir:
As mentioned in the description, Kabir was all about healing. And I felt the same way reading the poems in there. They were some sort of motivational pump.
The collection made us realise that we should never loose hope and everything will be good in the end. Its all about conquering and getting over your heartbreak/sadness.
My Favorite Poem from Mohi:
You think you are ready
For the loss
You think you are preparing
Your mind and your heart
And your body
For their leaving in advance
But you can not.
When they will leave ,you will feel the pain
Despite of so many preparations
You will always feel the pain
Because love does not work like this.
Ofcourse it is going to hurt.
My Favorite Poem from Kabir:
Universe sends Hurting
And then it sends healing.
Just like It sends rain
After a hot day
So, what If they injured you,
The one with the bandages
Is on his way.
My thoughts on the book:
Even though all the poems written on both Mohi and Kabir were very well written, on a personal level, I enjoyed the collection of verses from Mohi than from Kabir. The author has done a great job and I adored the little illustrations as well.
My Rating:
I'm a huge fan of poetry and I especially felt like these poems were somewhat different due to the way they were divided in groups and that gave them a sort of uniqueness. Hence, I'm going to give this book Five Yellow Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
